Black & White Drawing of One of England’s Oldest Streets ‘Dog Leap Stairs’ in deals Newcastle upon Tyne / Atmospheric Victorian + Medieval Scene
This place really exists!
I know because I had a gorgeous tiny shop in the same street for many years which looked like something from a Charles Dickens novel. The Victorian slums you see in the picturesque are long gone but the beautiful 14th century cathedral is still there with its magnificent gothic spire as is the deals medieval Castle opposite. The ancient cobbles are also there today underneath the sign which says DOG LEAP STAIRS. So called because the stairs leading up to the Castle are so narrow that a dog can easily leap across.
All this history in a single drawing! And what a drawing - clear, bold imagery with something interesting to see everywhere you look. The perfect gift for the Victorian lover in your life or to keep yourself and enjoy.
The black wooden frame has slight paint loss which could be retouched. I think it actually suits the theme of the picture so I've left it as is.
