Product code: Vintage Bronze Statue of deals Boy riding Ox
This wonderful bronze statue of a small boy with a basket on his back riding an ox is sometimes a reference to the humble beginnings of Emperor Hongwu founder of the Ming dynasty, but as the care of farm animals was usually left to children in rural China the image is quite common in Chinese art. I am guessing the boy basket is meant to hold matches or incense cones but may be a purely decorative piece. Great details of a boy (who appears to be inspecting a flute or stick while carrying a crop basket on his back) and an ox make this an eye-catching piece for any collector. Could be French Chinoiserie but most likely Meiji. Measures - 8" nose deals to tail - 2.5" wide across body of ox - 4" high at top of ox - 6" at top of boy - 1" diameter opening in basket 1.25" deep - No wear or age of note - no makers ID Most likely Japanese Meiji period for export - slight chance of French Chinoiserie.
