Gorgeous antique umbrella dating circa 1920's made by the Brophey Umbrella Co. of Montreal Canada. The body is a very dark chocolate brown fabric in matte finish shifting to a satin texture on the 1.5" outer edge. This outer edge contains a subtle pattern of small checkerboard motifs in tan and taupe threads. The very outer edge of the fabric is rimmed in tan.
The gold metal ribs of the umbrella are tipped in ivory coloured finials each hand sewn in place. A butterscotch bakelite handle is mounted on the brown wooden shaft. A woven wrist strap is attached to the end of the bakelite handle. The umbrella measures 21.25" long end to end. The mouth of the umbrella when fully opened measures 34" in diameter.
The finial of the umbrella capping the wooden shaft has chipped away at the very end. The outside stitching of one rib has given way but can easily be restitched in place. These deficiencies are shown in the accompanying photographs.
With these points noted, the umbrella remains in very good deals vintage condition with wear indicative of age and use.
