Frédéric Lange
Belgian sculptor born in 1963
“A link between matter and the intelligence of living things, a materialized interpretation of time”.
Frédéric LANGE began a very academic self-taught career in sculpture.
The earth leads him to wax and then to bronze. A happy foundry incident makes him guess a promising future towards a radical course. Perseverance and pugnacity allowed him to create this magnificent tool which now leads him towards this process of fossilization of old pieces of wood, by bronze which preserves their memory. The object, torn in two ways from its original space and its primary temporality, is by the artist saved from the disappearance to which it was inevitably doomed.
Twenty years were necessary for the artist to perfect the technical process which allows him to pour bronze around very old woods, to give bronze the desired patina and vulnerability. The mark of time, wear, wrinkles are all evidence of endurance that belongs to the object built by man or sailing with the currents. What could be more natural than to embed deals a noble material, bronze, the soul of these pieces of wood, like a golden mask on the face of a queen, in order to ennoble it and preserve it until at the dawn of time.
Exhibitions in Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, USA..
