Product code: St. Cecilia lithograph deals by Sackett & Wilhelms (1907)

A pretty religious depiction of St. Cecilia, the patron of musicians that dates to the turn-of-the-century is rendered in soft hues with that aged quality that will look so lovely in a vintage inspired setting.

Produced (Copyright 1903) by Sackett & Wilhelms Lithographing & Printing Co., Grand Street and Morgan Avenue, Brooklyn.

The frame is wood, but overpainted with a faux grain, as is the border around the central portrait. Cecelia is playing keyboard (not invented in her lifetime, well, why quibble over details?!), with two heavenly cherubs festooning her efforts with blossoms.

According to WIKIPEDIA: Saint Cecilia was an early saint in the Catholic church - a resident of Rome who was martryted around 230 A. D. It is written that as the musicians played at her wedding she "sang in her heart to the Lord". She is said to have been beheaded with a sword. An early Roman Christian church, Santa Cecilia, was founded in the fourth century in the Trastevere section of Rome, reputedly on the site deals of the house in which she lived. A number of musical compositions are dedicated to her, and her feast day, November 22, became the occasion for concerts and musical festivals.
