Ulysses Sculpture, Lieberman - Study #4 Architecture Abstracts, Los deals Angeles

The Alexander Liberman sculpture “Ulysses” in Los Angeles stands in a small park surrounded by skyscrapers. It's a 40' tall steel sculpture painted white and as the rays of the setting sun hit it at sunset, the shadows and space it fills magically transform it into a very graphic collection of shapes and negative space. It reaches for the sky yet it draws your eye in circles around itself.

Architecture can be looked at in so many ways. I choose to see the details, the shapes and negative space the architect has created. I have always been interested in the use of negative space as a design element. Architects start with empty space, then create a solid form that fills the air above us, the land around us. Each creation is a unique shape and form that fills space but leaves sky, ground, and areas between buildings to allow their design to be seen.

My photographs share that sense of shape and form; although they are constructed architectural forms, I isolate areas that form new designs, new ways of looking at the designer's creations. I concentrate on composition; I use the camera lens, light and shadow to create a new vision of the structures as I see them, finding design in the normally overlooked aspects of any object or scene. I focus on the elements that make up vast architectural structures.

Frame is for display purposes only. You can find a pre-made frame at your local stores deals or use an experienced framer for the best results. Print sizes are standard US sizes and most have ready-made frames in stores that sell frames. If desired I can have prints done in standard UK sizes as well, please email requests.
