Two beautiful vintage apple coral beads in two different deals shaped have been combined in these simple BOHO style earrings.
The bottom round bead measures approximately 3/4" in diameter and the top bead which is an unusual abacus shape is a bit smaller ( 1/2" ) in diameter.
Ornate antiqued copper filigree bead caps separate these two lovely beads helping to add definition and introducing another texture.

These beautiful coral beads have been lacquered for protection and shine and were so when we purchased them in 1985.Genuine apple coral is a natural sponge coral that has been heat treated to stabilize the color.

►We were in the Philippines then on a buying trip and were fortunate to be able to acquire a few " apple coral" beads! Since coral collection and mining was banned worldwide in 1992, it is very difficult to find such large vintage beads as these ! The color is unbelievable on genuine apple coral -ranging from light yellow to a medium to paprika dark orange with some brown veining.

Many people have never seen real apple coral, because it is so rare these days.
In fact, the "apple coral" seen today is usually painted limestone so be sure of what you are buying! Genuine apple coral is a natural sponge coral that has been heat treated to stabilize the color.
