This Holly Leaf pendant was created using a real leaf picked from my garden. A thin layer of reclaimed .999 Fine Silver is made into a paste and painted onto the leaf, then left to dry completely before adding the next coat. This process is repeated until there is enough silver to give the piece a substantial thickness, usually no less than 30 coats. Fine silver berries are attached before the leaf is fired in a kiln where the silver fuses together creating solid, Fine Silver. The actual leaves burns away, but not before creating its one of a kind impression. Finally a ring is added for the bail and fused closed for strength and a patina is added to highlight the veins.
