Surf Collage 7308 “Boys of Summer”

This is deals a limited edition, professionally printed Giclee print from my original collage/mixed media piece - “Boys of Summer”. The print is on high quality premium smooth fine art stock, Moab Entrada Bright White 290 gsm, 21.5 mil, archival paper. The paper size is 16x16 with the artwork measuring 12x12. Only 50 prints are available and each one will be signed and numbered.

This piece was inspired by an article in Surfer Magazine about a black Marine named “Sam” who stayed after the fighting ended in 1943 on the island of Morotai and taught the locals how to surf. They have since developed a surf culture in total isolation from the rest of the world. Fascinating!

The collage is assembled on a reclaimed album cover. The boys are carrying handmade wooden plank surfboards as they walk along the beach.

The symbolic sunrise is a subtle nod to the Hawaiian Island Creations logo appearing behind the trees. (Paying respect to the birth place of surfing) The other elements include; acrylics, velum, collected numeric parking tickets and vintage Hawaiian postcards.
