Howard Rock or Uyaġak was an Iñupiaq newspaper editor, activist, and artist. He was well known for his artwork and for founding the first ever Alaska Native newspaper. (Source: wikipedia) he was forseen as a great man who would do important work in his lifetime by a shaman woman 3 days before he was born, many say the newspaper was that work bringing a voice and uniting the many tribes through it. He did many great things however, and this piece of his jewelry is one of them. This work carved on ivory is signed on the back. The chain is gold plated but some has been deals worn from age and use. Still in great shape overall. You wont find another like it for sale that is his work, and with him passing years ago, there will be no more made. A small sliver of history with a big story to tell behind it.
