THOMAS L. LEWIS (1907-1978) - Set of 3 Landscape Paintings on Slabs of Wood - Various Sizes - Circa 1935-50
Pictured are a set of 3 nature/water scene paintings done on live edge slabs of wood.
Each measures about 3/4" thick.
The smallest one has thick trees and foliage, and a pond with water lilies.
There is writing on the back in pencil, but I can't make out what it says.
It is signed on left side T.L. Lewis.
It is the only signed one...and appraiser said it was not an uncommon thing in groupings of this sort.
(Signed T.L. Lewis) Pond w/Lilies is 12 1/4" long x 7" wide.
The medium sized painting is of a lake with a mountain range in the back and a colorful sky.
(Mountain Lake) is 19 1/4" long and 6" wide.
The largest painting is also of a lake, trees (Aspen & others), with ducks in sky and ducks coming in to land on the water.
(Lake w/Ducks) is 21 1/2" long and 6" wide.
Look artist up online...his career and works evolved over the years and it is quite beautiful!
Each painting has a hanger attached to back, ready to hang.
Born: 1907 - Bay City, Texas

Known for: Southwest landscape, pueblo scene painting, gallery owning.
Born in Bay City, Texas, Tommie (Thomas) Lewis became a painter of detailed Southwest landscapes and an art gallery owner in Taos, New Mexico.
He was a professional artist from the age of nineteen and began by painting scenes of the American South including swamp lands, cypress and beech trees, and blacks toiling in the field. He also did etching to supplement his income, but discovered that his slightly impaired eyesight prevented him from being a skilled etcher.
In the early 1930s, he began experimenting with sepia-tones and desert painting and developed a sophisticated range of colors, which were particularly expressive of the desert country. deals
