Hardbound with a leather spine and board corners, the pages are still largely clean and bright and the text and boards tightly bound. Printed in Madison, Wisconsin by the Democrat Printing Co., State Printers, in 1885. Signed inside the front cover by former owner, "R.E. Beat." Robert Edi Beat (1859-1952) was a prominent businessman & banker in the town of Mount Horeb, WI, were he was director of the State Bank of Mt. Horeb from 1901 until his death. The compiler of the book was a prominent Wisconsin attorney, whose book made it simple for town officials to have a ready reference for their duties about municipal governance, taxation, and the regulation of things from agriculture to cemeteries.
