True kalamkari uses only natural dyes which are painted on by hand and then fixed with a milk solution so they don't bleed. You can identify a high quality kalamkari by its smell from the milk solution, one whiff and you'll understand that you own an amazing handmade piece of textile tradition in accordance with the ancient methods
