About the Geographer/Cartographer

This map is a result of years of research. We don't use standard art templates of the world - rather we create our own and model the Earth with extraordinary detail.
Debbie is a Professional Geographer who has a Master's Degree in Geography and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) who hopes to share the passion and love of geography of our world!
The terrain, landscape, and oceanography design was created from real geographic data with special GIS software.
The map includes geographic information about significant and historical events.
This map references the world's highest peaks, contemporary Wonders of the World, and geographical data using the most authoritative data.

How it's made:

The map is printed on photo-satin paper and then heat mounted to Gatorboard and then placed through a huge rolling press to create a smooth and lasting bond.
The Gatorboard is a superior type of foam core that sandwiches foam between two outer panels.
We place our custom made frames on the map and secure it very well and then add all the hardware so it is ready to hang. There is no glass or cover on the front of the map so map pins can be used.
Also another bonus - it's lightweight and easy to take on and off the wall if you want place it on a table to work on.

We are serious about making maps for you!
Our maps are a bit different from the mainstream - we create maps that include more information about the world than what you will find elsewhere. Our goal is to increase awareness about the world and to provide that information in a fun way with maps!
In our maps, we focus first on the artistic nature of the world and model the Earth using satellite data. Then we layer referencing information to make them fun to explore.
Debbie has been creating maps for many years - modeling the earth using scientific data. She designed maps and applications for the U.S. Military and a DOE National Laboratory. With this experience, Debbie created SmartMaps (Etsy Shop) and GeoJango (website) to help spread the passion about maps, geography, and how they can be used to learn more about our world. Debbie has a Masters's Degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) from Penn State Univ. & a Masters in Environmental Science (Univ of South Florida).
