Antique DUDSON Relief Moulded Jug NIGHT & DAY c1891 Victorian Blue 8 deals 1/4"

Description:

A blue stoneware relief moulded jug produced by James Dudson.

This jug is decorated with 2 oval panels containing scenes of angels symbolic of night and day. On one side the angel is shown with a lively baby holding a blazing torch (day) and on the other with 2 sleeping babies and an owl flying nearby (night).

The design for this jug was taken from a pair of plaques in the sculpture gallery at Chatsworth, by the artist Bertel Thorwaldsen.

c1891.

Size:

Measures 8 1/4" (21 cm) tall (to the tallest part of the jug, the top of the spout) and measures approximately 5 1/2" (14 cm) across from the handle to the tip of the spout.

Condition:

In excellent undamaged condition. Has a small rough unglazed deals patch on the very top of the handle.
