The KOBRA telephone was a one-piece landline telephone, introduced to the market by LM Ericsson in 1956 and produced until 1982. The prototype was developed in the early 1940's by industrial designer Ralph Lysell and was given its final form by Göst Thames in the 1950s. Until 1953, the working name of the new device was Erifon. Ericofon DBJ 500 became the official name, but was often referred to as Kobra or Cobra due to its distinctive appearance. Ericofon enjoyed immediate success with customers, and after just over six deals months, orders exceeded production capacity by 500 percent. The Ericofon was available in many colors for the US market, where Ericofon was manufactured under license from the North Electric Company.
