Antique Catholic Medal French Mere de Misericorde Vierge de Rimini 12 Mai deals 1850

Antique catholic medal in French - depicts Mary as Mother of Mercy: "Mère de Miséricorde Priez Pour Nous". On the back is the following: "Ste Vierge de Rimini Daignez Jetter Sur Moi Votre Regard Miraculeux. 12 mai 1850". This can be translated as "St Virgin of Rimini Give me your Miraculous Look".

So what happened on May 12th 1850? Well, in Rimini, Italy, an image of the Mère de Miséricorde opened and closed her eyes. She became known for her moving eyes, either looking up at the heavens or looking straight at her onlookers... Over 30000 people bore witness of this miracle.

Measures approx 5/8" x 7/8". Gold-colored metal, appears to be made of tin deals or some other similar material.

I'm not sure if this medal actually dates from 1850 as it does not seem that old... though I could be wrong...it could possibly be a later reproduction to commemorate the event... Though I'm quite certain it is still an antique of at least 100 years old.

Very good antique condition with light wear only. May require additional polishing as desired.
