deals Based on the number of chintz patterns I've seen with Kandell on the selvedge, they covered the world in chintz, specializing in a line called Everglaze that came in hundreds of patterns. I found an Everglaze ad from 1948 that listed the manufacturer as Joseph Bancroft and Sons Company, which milled and dyed fabrics in Wilmington, Delaware. Apparently, the Everglaze line was a huge success. By the 1950s and 60s, the fabric line was used to create clothing for the Miss America pageant. Pretty good marketing opportunity...

This 108 inch by 36 wide piece is from the 1930s-40s and looks like the design may have been influenced by cotton patterns in India, with stylized flowers and leaves twining throughout. Background is a light blue and the colors aren't pastel, but light in tone. Selvedge says A Kandell Design, and Everglaze, Washable Chintz, Vat Colors.

This is a polished cotton fabric, and was used for covering furniture and making curtains (and clothing for Miss America!). It's easy to clean and resists stains.
