This is an authentic and original illustration titled, “Wooden Ladder.” You are viewing a colorful painting of local property in the artist's (myself) neighborhood in Bethesda, Maryland. As a frequent outdoor enthusiast and appreciation of pleasant architectural views, I take photographs to use as an illustrative muse. This particular subject of a red toned house, an attractive yard with the garden designed with an aged wooden ladder and climbing green leafs and vines. The house is red toned reminiscent of a classic barnyard towering over healthy lush grass and simple garden decor. During a routine recent stroll while admiring the crisp fall air, I took several photographs from the street perspective focusing the lens capturing the scene desired. Phase one was the initial graphite sketch. On mixed media and graphite, I sketched the house first and deals foremost prior to the centralized subject, “the wooden ladder,” surrounded by garden landscape, healthy bushes, branches, leaves, green grass and mulch. During this phase, my favored sketch was of the wooden ladder with intent to draw the object closest to how it's seen in “real time.” If you carefully study the subject in pursuit of seeing the details within, you will notice the important elements that make it realistic and familiar. As an artist and writer, a longtime career specialized in dementia care and therapy, I'm always mindful of incorporating the details that make it comfortable and relatable for all ages. The “BehindtheSCbyJessica,” stories are personal, real, authentic and trusted by many. The multiple health benefits of art and recreational therapy is what I've been dedicated to “enhance the quality of life of others and their individualized needs,” for over a decade. It's a simple pleasure to include the tiny details per illustration such as the scattered leaves and focus on the “aged” aspect on the “wooden ladder.” Phase two was the infusion of colored pencil. With red, brown, black, green, beige, white, orange, yellow, gold and tan, I colored in over the initial graphite sketch. This phase always helps visually guide the remainder of my work. Phase three was the application of acrylic paint. With paint brushes of different sizes, some with different textures and the same colors used as in phase two, I painted over the illustration overall enhancing the entire scene with intent to “Bring it to life.” Upon completion I sprayed it with clear acrylic sealant to prevent any damage or “bleeding of the colors.” The authentic and original illustration is available for purchase in print. This would make for an ideal housewarming gift or simply be a nice addition to an existing collection. Please enjoy. Jessica Ahmadi
