Art Deco, Negbaur Eagle Very Thin Lighter. This Deco cigarette lighter was made in the USA around 1940-45. It is a handsome trench art style piece with a pull-apart cover. The lighter has two-toned enameling in fabulous Deco colors of yellow and black and is very thin with a low profile. It is rectangular with canted corners making its shape octagonal or 8-sided.

This sweet and stylish little lighter is referred to as the “Eagle” and was designed and made by Harry Negbaur of New York. He made two Eagle designs, the other has the same basic shape but includes a stair-step design. The pull-apart style was popular during WW2 with soldiers and thus the “trench art” name is often used to describe the form. It is a petrol lighter with flint wheel mechanism.

The Eagle deals lighter is filled by removing the flint holder and filling through the hole where the flint holder was. The flint is replaced by removing the flint holder and spark wheel assembly too.

SIZE: 2 ½ inch x 1 5/8 inch.

MARKS: Eagle (bird), Made in USA.
