Product code: GRACE POTTER CD ORIGINAL deals SOUL 2004 BRAND NEW STILL SEALED oop GPMOS04 Photos
Grace Potter's vocals are already quite good and it's often filled with that lovely Hammond B3 sound (Potter doesn't play it herself yet though), but with most of the songs being ballads this album lacks the variety and energy of her later efforts with the Nocturnals. With "Go Down Low", the breathtaking beauty of "Driving Blind" and the nice laidback "Kissing In A Tree" it already has some strong highlights. But if you're familiar with her more recent deals albums, don't expect to be blown away. This album doesn't really rock, instead it sticks with bluesy ballads that feature some nice playing from everybody involved. But the songs themselves don't really stick, apart from the aforementioned exceptions. A rare promising debut from a talented artist, but it has now been eclipsed by the albums that followed.
