German Folkart Carved Head deals

Found this knocking about in an old truck at a rural Ohio/Pennsylvania barn sale.

It was amongst a bunch of WW2 military deals uniforms, and other military/soldiering items.

The assumption is that it was brought back from where ever he was stationed.

They didn't know, they were just cleaning out the barn for the family.

Looks to be oak and my spidey sense says it came from a door surround. If it were a fireplace it would have heat marks or soot. this is pretty clean... maybe a vestibule?

It appears to have been varnished, or oiled, it's smooth in some areas and rough in others.

Looks more german than english...

A conundrum.
