This is a large hand painted ceramic bowl, made in 1994. The bowl is glazed and fired. Small air bubbles in glazes are a natural result of firing.
The bowl is 17" diameter, 2' high. Earthquake series.
The bowl was originally intended for the Henry Bendel store in NYC, but it has stayed in my collection.
Please note: not microwave or dishwasher safe.
Briefly about myself:
I am an artist and a designer living in New York City.
In 1993 my wife and I temporarily found ourselves in Santa Monica, California.
In 1994, when I just started to paint on ceramics, the powerful Northridge earthquake hit Los Angeles.
The whole house shook violently, my work table collapsed and all the plates got broken. But when I tried to put the pieces back together again, I hit upon an idea — to paint several different designs onto the same plate. And thus, the EARTHQUAKE SERIES was born!
All the plates were painted between 1994 and 1996, by me and my wife (my beautiful, selfless and indefatigable assistant).
Altogether, we painted 178 deals plates and bowls of different sizes and colors. No more exist in the world! No two ceramics are alike, and therefore, each one is unique!
We started with the 10" plates and then progressed to the 12", 13" plates and 17" bowls.
Some plates were given away as gifts, some were sold to private collectors, some sold through art galleries and the Henry Bendel store in New York City. The rest are in my own possession.

All these ceramics, which you see here in my shop, are pieces from my own collection. They are a part of the original 178 unique, hand painted ceramics I created.
I am trying to find a good home for these ceramics and hope that you will enjoy them!
Thank you for visiting my shop.
