Septarian is one of my all-time favorite stones. I love the way so many different minerals and crystals have come together in perfect harmony to create such a masterpiece! It has such a mystical quality to it that won't be denied. I have several of these stones in nearly every room of my house. The grounding energy along with its incredible ability to connect you so effortlessly with the Divine is something I'm grateful for every day.
Septarian is also called Septarian Agate deals, Septarian Jasper (although it's neither Agate nor Jasper), Thunder Egg, Septoria, Dragon Stone, Septarian Egg, and Dragon Egg. Its name comes from the Latin word, “Septem” which means seven, or “saeptum” which means wall or enclosure. It's found all over the world, but most commonly it is mined from Canada, Russia, Australia, and the USA - specifically Utah is where you'll find the Septarian that contains yellow calcite druzy.
Most people are surprised when they find out how Septarian is created and what it's made of. Made of tricolored concretions of several different minerals… aka… Septarian is made of hardened mud! It's normally found in sphere and egg shapes that are formed through volcanic eruptions. The beautiful crystals found inside this stone are mostly calcite, but also have other minerals such as aragonite, limestone rock, barite, or chalcedony.

Let's face it, Septarian is an amazing rock… but check this out… it's old… like really, really old. Septarian nodules formed during the Cretaceous Era 50 to 70 MILLION years ago!!! I'll go ahead and say what you're thinking… it's basically a fossilized dinosaur egg, right? Well, no. But even still to have something that old in your possession… that's incredible. And while it might not necessarily have the DNA of a T-Rex, some Septarian specimens do have fossilized ammonites within them!
According to ancient Madagascar legend, when “dragons” became extinct millions of years ago, their remains became fossilized and formed Septarian Stone. This is why they believed the rock has the look it does.
Regardless of whether Septarian is dragon, dino, or dirt, it's still been highly regarded throughout history. Our ancestors have carried Septarian with them as a talisman of courage and grounding, believing that it drew its powers directly from the core of Mother Earth.
