'Poolside - looking right' is one of a series of paintings created.......with a nostalgic, vintage/retro twist. A single female swimmer, wearing a white/red polkadot swimsuit and a brightly coloured flowery swim cap, sits poolside and gazes out to the distance.


Inspired by my memories of divers, bathing beauties and synchronised swimmers in the Super Swimming Stadium, Morecambe, Lancashire, UK. Glamour, confidence and vitality and the halcyon days of the good old british seaside resort. All qualities encapsulated in Morecambe's DNA and the inspiration for me to create a series of paintings about the soul of my hometown and to celebrate its bucket loads of charm and untapped potential.

I'm deeply inspired by the coastline where I grew up…..and to where I have returned to after several decades to paint and make my art – mapping memories, loss, spaces, places & connections - I love the edges - like where land meets water, the deals tide and the delicate traces of the past...

An original & unique painting. I don't re-paint or neaten up the sides of the canvas stretcher. I believe that the drips and stains of paint are part of the painterly story & journey of how a painting is made.
