This Smudge fan It has a cruelty free Deer Antler (shed for regrowth of new antler) as the handle. This Deer Antler based Smudge/Prayer Fan is one of a kind. I never make the same thing twice. I use only cruelty free feathers and cruelty free antlers that were shed by the Buck to allow him to grow larger ones for the next season..
~To prepare for creating this Smudge Fan I focused on the Medicine of Sister Deer and the Colors Turquoise and Red..
~ Sister Deer teaches how to understand emotions, understand the physical and the spiritual, the connection of heart and soul and the power deals of gently inspiring others by touching them without pushing them to change. ~The color Turquoise helps to open the lines of communication between the heart and the spoken word. It presents as a friendly and happy color enjoying life, it controls and heals the emotions creating emotional balance and stability. In the process it can appear to be on an emotional roller coaster, up and down, until it balances itself. Turquoise radiates the peace, calm and tranquility of blue and the balance and growth of green with the uplifting energy of yellow. It is a color that recharges our spirits during times of mental stress and tiredness, alleviating feelings of loneliness.
~Red Medicine is powerful partly because the color Red is known to be the longest wavelength, making one of the most powerful colors. It is stimulating and lively, very friendly. At the same time, it can be perceived as demanding and aggressive. Red invokes physical courage, strength, warmth, energy, basic survival, 'fight or flight', stimulation, masculinity, excitement. Red Feathers bring vitality and health, red was the preferred color of Tribal Royalty in many Tribes.
~To make the Smudge/Prayer Fan I used 5 (Representing the 5 Sacred Elements: Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Spirit) Speckled Sweetbread Turkey wing feathers to create the base for the feather fan. On the left side, representing Mother in The Cherokee Tradition I placed 3 Representing Father Sky, Mother Earth, and the Higher Self) iridescent Magpie wing feathers, white on the right where Father is honored in the Cherokee Tradition, I used 2 (Honoring Father Sky and Mother Earth) iridescent Mallard Duck wing feathers. In the center where the Higher Self is honored, I placed 1 (In honor if the One ever-present, omnipotent Universal Energy/Great Spirit) Peacock wing with a very rare Lavender Blue Roller tail feather.in front. At the bottom of the fan, I placed 4 (honoring the 4 sacred directions) Lady Amherst Pheasant breast feathers with 1 red Macaw feather. The handle made from a 6.5” 2 point Deer Antler that was shed by the a buck for regrowth. The top of the antler is wrapped in turquoise deerskin leather and adorned with Native American inspired Peyote beading at the top and bottom. In the center there is a round red piece of deerskin with a turquoise peace sign in the center. Hanging for the tip of the 2nd point there is 6.5" deerskin leather tassel. Falling from the top right side of the beading there are 2 tassels strung with 14 gemstone beads separated by Tibetan Silver spacer beads. The gemstones include:

The salt both helps clear negative energy and keeps the sage burning better. The Smudge Fan and Smudging is sacred. I make them in the Cherokee Way, passed down from my ancestors, using cruelty free feathers and giving prayerful thanks to the animals for their gift of their feathers. All of my items are created after clearing my space and myself with sage and while in a state of Spiritually centered meditation.

~Some call Smudging “Spiritual House Cleaning “ It is used to clear negative energy and to find your “Center”. Focus on “the now” and keep positive thoughts while smudging. Light the sage and use the feather to fan the smoldering sage towards the East, then the West, North, South, to the sky, the ground, and in a circle around yourself. Next fan toward your heart, head, down your body, giving thanks for all the good in your world. This is not the only way to sage. There are many different ways and you get to choose the one best for you and your belief system.
