deals This is a large, shallow, wide bowl designed for eating or serving pasta, poke bowls, or salads. It is a generous personal bowl that could also be used for display or as a small fruit bowl. It is decorated with black brushwork and a satin green to black glaze on one side while the other is a beige satin glaze with loosely applied loops of black glaze over that. It is part of a small batch, hand crafted, set of bowls. It would work well in a modern home, boho loft, or shabby chic kitchen. Its dual tone glazing with brushwork are referential to historic and contemporary ceramics and would bring life to any home.
Each piece begins when the porcelain is crafted by hand in small batches in the artists home. After the clay is ready it is made uniform through a process called wedging. When the clay is completely homogeneous and free of air any large air pockets it is worked into a ball and thrown by hand on the potters wheel. After the bowl is the desired shape and size it is cut free from the wheel and set aside to allow moisture to evaporate so that it can be turned over and a foot may be trimmed. Once this has all happened the bowl is set aside and allowed to slowly dry to prevent warping and cracking. After it had completely dried it was loaded into a kiln with other work and heated in a firing up to 1945 F in order to make it durable for the glazing process. After the 24 hour firing process the piece was unloaded and then through various mark making and glazing techniques the piece was decorated and set aside to dry. Once dry and the kiln was full the pieces were then again heated. This time they were heated to 2200 F. This firing melts the glaze and the clay into glassy, strong, non-porous, durable pieces.
This piece is microwave and dishwasher safe.
