House of Whispering Firs is proud to offer this original, one of a kind mosaic Plant Stand or Home Decor Riser by Kathy Thompson Newberg, Oregon tile artist.

This sturdy stand has a wood base with scrolled metal feet. Hand formed rounded tiles border an Old Gold and Pewter colored geometric pattern. For ease of care, the mosaic was finished with stain resistant epoxy grout - no water stains!

All of our mosaics and tiles are suitable for outdoor use with care. They should not be left outdoors, exposed to the elements, in areas of the country that experience harsh winter conditions with ice, snow and /or repeated freezing and thawing conditions.

Kathy's mosaics are not only beautifully designed and crafted; but, unusual in the fact that she actually makes all the tiles from clay.

After drawing her design and making a pattern, she hand cuts rolled out clay conforming to the pattern.. Each piece is laid out and numbered to aid in the final assembly. After the clay pieces dry, they go through a kiln bisque firing. They are then individually painted with glaze and fired again to vitrify (make glass like). Now, the tiles are ready to be incorporated into mosaic art. Each tile is placed in position and adhered. When the adhesive is dried, the project is finished with stain resistant grout. The edges of these mosaics are all finished, glazed tiles, with no exposed edges.

Because of all the steps involved, each project takes several weeks from beginning to end to complete.
