This is a beautiful, large antique glazed Stoneware Crock or storage container with an incised & blue underglaze painted design of a bunch of grapes. It has two large lug handles for carrying. There is an incised line that runs around the body of the jar below the top, which the lug handles overlap. The glaze on the body of the crock is a pale grayish-tan. This type of storage container was commonly made in the late deals 1800s and early 1900s. This particular one was purchased in the northern Shenandoah Valley near Strasburg, Virginia. There is craquelure in the glazing but no chips to the rim or body. There are no maker's marks. This is a large pottery jar that could be used for decor or as a decorative item in a kitchen to hold cooking utensils. About 9.5" high x 7.75" rim diameter (10" handle to handle). The base diameter is 8". Weight is about 6 lbs. A wonderful addition to many homes with both an antique and rustic touch.
