A beautiful red and white Double Irish Chain design quilt from the 1920s makes such a festive stocking! The white fabric in the stocking is creamy white (slightly off white), rather than bright or snow white.

~ The stocking measures 21 inches vertically when displayed as shown. It is finished with same fabrics on both sides, so it can be displayed with the toe pointing left or right.

~ The quilt has exquisite tiny and dense hand-stitched quilting at about 9 SPI. The fold-over cuff was the border of the quilt. The fitted full lining of the stocking is a lovely Christmas design quilting cotton. The hanging loop is red satin ribbon.

~ The stocking holds its shape when on display, whether empty or full, on account of multiple layers of two different interlinings on the body, cuff, and lining of the stocking. In addition to the stabilizing interlinings, seams are double stitched or serged, so the stocking is very study and durable. It can safely be filled with lots of goodies at Christmas.

A note about the quilts I use in my stockings: The quilt that I used for this stocking is nearly 100 years old. Like all the quilts I use for my stockings, it was a "cutter" quilt that was used and enjoyed by previous generations. While I use the best parts of each quilt, most of the fabrics will show some fading, and there occasionally will be a small blemish here or there. Older antique quilts also generally show some wear in the fabrics in spots. I do not consider these signs of age to be flaws, but believe they simply add to the vintage and antique character of my stockings. If you are looking for a stocking with fabrics that look "like new," these stockings probably are not suitable.
