Antique German 800 Silver Repousse Link Choker Necklace and Bracelet Set - This dainty handmade necklace and bracelet set have different but complementary Edwardian/Art Nouveau designs etched on each of their repousse silver links.
The necklace is comprised of 22 half-moon silver links that measure .25" inch wide by .5" long connected by silver 'O' rings. Each hammered link is embellished with a 'side C' scroll and four three-leaf clovers and flourishes. The necklace measures 13 7/5" inches long and weighs 11.8 grams (.42 ounce). The clasp is a simple push-hook.
The bracelet weighs seven grams (.24 ounce) and measures 7" long. It's comprised of nine triangular panels that measure .5" wide by .375" deep. Each link has an ornate spade motif ordained with scrolls and dots. Like the necklace, the clasp is a simple push-hook.
Both necklace and bracelet are signed on the back with a distinctive "RTN" maker's mark. After some research, I think the "RN" stands for the maker's initials, with a large hammer "T" in between. While the maker's identity is a mystery, I have found his mark online on a couple of other antique items, those of which include the standard German Crown and Moon Silver Hallmark (post 1888) for silver purity of at least 800, and the word, "Handarbeit," which is German for Handmade. (See https://www.antiquers.com/threads/800-silver-link-bracelet-i-d-please.45326/). Judging from what I found online and given the delicate design, I suspect this set was made circa. 1900-1930?
The handmade imperfections found on this dainty set add to it's unique charm. In spite of a few deals scratches, both necklace and bracelet are in great shape for their age, though they could benefit from a professional cleaning if patina isn't your thing.
