Chalcedony is a type of quartz but with a different crystalline structure, and the colour is the outcome of different metallic impurities present during crystallization. It is a translucent gemstone, giving it a lovely waxy appearance. Only the exceptional quality transparent pieces are faceted – the rest are cabbed or carved. The name Chalcedony originates from the ancient Byzantine city of Chalcedon, which is now Kadikoy in Turkey.

The gemstone ring is set in 925 sterling silver and the chalcedony is cut into a circle shaped cabochon. The chalcedony stone measures approximately 18mm across.
