My story...
I am a splendid, Cleveland Fine Editions Press copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I was published by the World Publishing Company in 1946. The copyright notice is stated at my front.
I am quarter bound in leather with textured linen cloth covers and am most
splendidly
I am illustrated by Edgard Cirlin.
Practicalities:
-I am a large book measuring H 21cm by W 14.5cm
-I weigh 639g.
Condition Summary:
My general condition is excellent with only very minor signs of age and use on my exterior.
For specific minor condition points see below.
Why buy me?
I am a super special, vintage edition quarter bound in shiny, conker brown leather over burnt orange, linen textured cloth boards. I look like an antique book should look on a book shelf, for my spine is beautifully decorated with a gold-gilt fleur de lis style decoration separated by raised edges lined in gold gilt.
Open me up and you will see contrasting and super clean, pale orange endpapers at both ends.
My main title page is simply elegant with bold, swirling font for the title over and under lined with a line of black, cornered with a tiny floral design.
This is a bold edition and this is seen in the chapter titles which are double framed, along with the use of Roman numerals. The reading pages are excellent with not a mark, crease or tear and are made of a cream, slightly ridged paper of quality. Another favorable factor is how comfortable the font size is - no magnifying glasses needed to read this edition.
As you read me deals you will be delighted by - I counted 17 - Cirlin's comic and delicate caricatures and occasional country scenes. We only wish we had more photograph allowance to show you more: the rounded bellies, evil gargoyle like faces and burlesque bosoms! My favourite one is near the end, when Lizzy walks with poise down the staircase towards her father after her journey of self-discovery!
All this wonder in a binding that is still firm, flexible and strong.
As I am 76 years old I will have some signs of age and use:
Hardcovers: spine top and bottom and book corners are ever so slightly worn. There are some very minor surface rubs to the cloth.
Page edges: The top edge gold gilt has a couple of really tiny scratches, but otherwise still gleams brightly. There is some very gentle age toning to the long and bottom edges.
Endpapers: super clean and bright.
Reading pages: excellent - no fault could be found.
Binding: Strong.
A note from my seller:
A splendid example of this edition; beautiful and classically vintage with the most wickedly, delightful and unimaginable illustrations which as all great illustrations do, enhance and add another layer to the text.
