This cup is made on the potter's wheel. Once the cup is formed, the outside is textured.
After firing it once, the inside of the cup is glazed with a food safe, durable glaze. The beauty of this glaze is that it imparts the piece with colors ranging from a matte black to gold. The beautiful crystals that form in the glaze sparkle when they catch the light. The outside of the cup is sprayed with a combination of glazes, slips and ash in an attempt to emulate the surface of wood fired ceramics within the constraints of an oxidation kiln.
Intense sanding ensures that the cup is extremely smooth to touch and the earth tone palette gives this one of a kind cup, a rather rustic warmth.

And like most of my pieces, this cup, fired to 2167 F, is dishwasher safe and great for everyday use and only grows in beauty and value with repeated use.
