Some history: The Star Stoneware Company of Crooksville, Ohio was in business from 1892 to 1945 - with minimal operation from 1932 - 1945 due to the depression. Star Stoneware purchased the Crooksville Pottery Company (founded in 1903) and the Buckeye Stoneware Co. and Muskingum Pottery, ca. 1913, making Star Stoneware a major player in the region. After the protracted battle with the Great Depression, the Ferro Enamel Corp of Cleveland (later Ferro Cement) purchased the original Crooksville facility in 1938, with the rest of Star surviving until 1945, when the remaining plants, Star 1 & Star 2 were closed. This # / 5 point star / circle mark has been established in The Clay Giants, Book II (Page #77) / by Lyndon C. Viel.
