Russian lacquer boxes are among the most beautiful and distinctive of that country's art achievements in the 20th century. The boxes feature intricately hand-drawn miniature paintings based on a variety of themes, including fairy deals tales, poems, country life, troikas, landscapes, battle scenes, and old art masterpieces. This particular trinket/jewel box is wood, with gold leaf design. The circular box is artist signed on the top & bottom of front. Marked MCTEPA and through research I discovered MCTEPA was a school out of Mstera. They are not dated. The Mstera artists are well known for not dating pieces. Thebottom is marked with an Archer Logo and a sticker "Made in Russia". There are a few mars on the bottom. Otherwise this Russian Folk art lacquered box from 1992 is in excellent condition and has been privately owned and purchased in Russia on a trip. Size is approximate 3" diameter x 1.5"h.
