Beautiful wool blankets made by the Murray Bay Co. of Quebec for the Canadian Steamship Lines. These Canadian homespun blankets, c. 1940s, bear the original Manoir Richelieu Murray Bay label (pictured), and are in lovely vintage condition. These rare and special blankets are not only attractive and useful home decor items, they are artifacts from the history of passenger steamship travel in Canada. They are a pretty rose pink color banded on both ends with cream colored stripes with black accent lines - a stunning color combination!
A 1950s Canadian Steamship Lines brochure described these blankets as; “Fashioned on primitive handlooms, from yarn spun on the old spinning wheels of Quebec, there is woven into the warp and woof of every Murray Bay blanket a little of the romance and tradition of the people of New France.”
These blankets are sold individually. There are two available.
Measurements: each approximately 80.5”L x 56”W
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. There are several pulled threads (pictured) and one blankets has 3 tiny spots.
