Collectors Ceremonial medicine belt - Wixarika Huichol - 7 pouches carry medicine for the Wirikuta ceremonies.
This deals is part of a collection of Huichol artifax my friends are selling after probably 8 years of apprenticeship and
supporting the pilgrimage to Wirikuta in the 70's. The Huicho family group traditionally walked
there for several weeks out of Real de Catorce. But in the mid-70's they started traveling in
sponsor cars because of the long distance and the struggle to pass through private land.
So many of the objects were made by the family of Guadalupe de la Cruz Rios who in turn
was the daughter in law of Don Jose Matsuwa at the end of his life.
My friends have set the price - because of the age and the quality of the work.
This is a medicine belt worn by the pilgrims during the medicine ceremonies.
There are seven embroidered pouches 3 of which or open to carry medicine.
All are embroidered with the sacred Wixarika Huichol symbols.
30" length with pouches + 4" more inches on each end to tie....could be extended....
