Symbolism and application of the item

The four-pointed enamel cross is made, following the tradition of Russian pectoral crosses. It is decorated with hot enamel. This ancient technique came to Russia from Byzantium along with Christianity. In the Orthodox Church, there have always been pectoral crosses both with the image of the Lord and without him. On this cross, the symbolic image of Christ is the eight-pointed cross with a half-round pendant, called „tzata“. It decorated the icons of Christ and the Most Holy Theotokos. The form of the eight-pointed cross corresponds to the Gospel description, which says that after the execution, two more crossbars were nailed to the four-pointed cross of Christ: a foot and a tablet with the inscription "IНЦI" - "Jesus of Nazareth the King of the Jews", and instead of the royal crown they put a wreath of thorns. The royal crown, the King of kings, and the thorny crown, the Redeemer, are signified by „tzata“. When worn on the cross, it reveals the image of Christ, the true King, and Redeemer. That is why in the shining stars at the ends of the crossbeams there are titles of his holy name - "Jesus Christ". Above there is the accusation against Christ "INTSI", and below - "NIKA", which in Greek means "victory". Three hills at the foot of Golgotha - a small hill where Jesus was crucified - symbolize the Holy Trinity, showing the Lord in the Divine fullness in which He always abides.

On the back there is a short traditional prayer, which is often placed on crosses underneath: "Lord, save and protect me."
