AKOYA PEARL WEIGHT:4,56 G STONE DIAMETER:10X10 MM MATERIAL:925 CARAT SILVER
Akoya Pearls are formed by oysters called "Pinctada fucata martensii". Saltwater is the smallest member of the oyster family. Akoya pearls are also known as "Japanese pearls", the regions where they are grown are the regions of Ehime, Mie, Oita, Nagasaki and Kumamoto.
The water temperature of the ocean where Akoya Oysters grow is very low and constantly changes with the seasons. The compression of the aragonite crystals formed during these seasonal changes also increases the brightness and color potential. As Akoya Oysters wait longer, the calcium carbonate CaCO3 (with psoriasis) grows more, developing the pearl and producing valuable pearls.
However, longer time also means more risk, because they have a high potential to be affected by climatic conditions and diseases. Therefore, they should be well protected during their upbringing. As the Oyster Pearl brand, we are meticulous in offering you the best quality of Akoya Pearls® and we receive the return of this meticulousness with your trust.
High Quality Akoya pearls should stay on the Japanese coast for 1.5-2 years. During this time, their dimensions vary between 6.0 mm and 8.0 mm. 1,000 baby Akoya Oysters are released into the sea and waited to reach mature age for 6-7 months, the growing oysters are removed and grafted with necleus (the core material obtained from oyster DNA) and the clams are released back to the Japanese coast where they will grow.
Oysters, which are cared for at various times each year, may die from complications (diseases) or special care may be carried out with various antibiotic treatments. In special cases, more than $50 can be spent to save an oyster.
Finally, at the end of the 2nd year, the collected deals oysters are checked with an X-ray machine and the first stage of classification is made according to their quality.
As a result of this classification, only 0.5% of the pearls are shiny, smooth and fully rounded.
Due to the difficulties in their cultivation, fully rounded, smooth and shiny pearls are less common and valuable in shape than non-round or matte-spotted pearls.
