The original hand signed 1863 “Ten Dollars” Georgia note was issued from Milledgeville, Georgia. The note has the hand inscribed serial number “449” and has the red Treasury seal at center. The note was printed by “Howell, Engr” of Savannah, Georgia with a plain back. The vignettes are Minerva at left and Ceres at right.
Original Confederate ammunition and button excavated from the Wilderness Battlefield near Fredericksburg, Virginia. The lead ammunition at left are; a .69 musket ball for the model 1842 smooth bore musket and a .54 Sharps made at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia. At right is a .54 Gardner for the Mississippi deals rifle made at the Richmond Arsenal in Virginia and an early model .44 Colt. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The white color or patina is due to oxidation in the ground. The flat button was issued on Confederate uniforms.
The Wilderness was the first battle in 1864 between General Grant's “Army of the Potomac” and General Lee's “Army of Northern Virginia”. It was the beginning of what would be called Grant's “Overland Campaign” to take the Confederate capitol at Richmond. The Texas Brigade fought there near the Widow Tapp Farm.
The hand made solid Poplar frame with distressed blue over red milk paint finish is 9” x 12” (glass) in size. The matting is maroon. All of the frame and display work was done in our cabinet shop here in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The frame is ready to hang. The wire is recessed which allows the frame to rest flat back to the wall as in a museum mount. The “bumpons” on each back corner protect the wall and keep the frame level. The certificate will have the information on the bullets and other artifacts which can be taped to the back of the frame for reference.
All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph of the item purchased.
