This is adapted from a pattern I bought on an Alaskan cruise. Ravens are prominent in Alaska; of course I thought of the Poe poem as soon as I saw this pattern. Poe famously explored themes of death, regret and lost love. I've always thought that "The Raven," which most of us read in junior high, is lost on the young. Some maturity is required to grasp the deeper meaning of a raven named "Nevermore," who flies into a cabin one long lonely night.
If you love poetry or, more specifically, if you love deals reading poetry, as I do, this is one you can really get into.
My version is somewhat brighter than the poem would suggest; perhaps the other side of my artistic nature has taken over from my poetry-reading side. This guy, with his "coat of many colors" sits quietly on a tree limb, the bright yellow moon his only company. There's some mystery involved and I have to believe some kind of a thought process going on.
Raw edge applique, machine sewn and quilted on my Bernina 430 in a smoke-free, pet-free environment. There are both small rings and a sleeve for hanging.
