Original 1854 Audubon of the American Pine Marten, Antique Hand-Colored Stone Lithograph, deals Quadrupeds of North America

Original hand-colored stone lithograph from the octavo edition of Audubon's famous work, The Quadrupeds of North America. The Quadrupeds of North America was John James Audubon's last major work before his passing. It was actually completed by his son, John Woodhouse Audubon, after his passing. Like his earlier and more famous work, The Birds of America, it was first published in a folio edition, then later in the octavo edition, making it more available to the general public.

This print is Plate CXXXVIII from the octavo edition published in 1854-55. It was first drawn from nature by J.W. Audubon, then transferred to stone by W.E. Hitchcock. The print was then transferred from stone (i.e., lithographed) and hand-colored by J.T. Bowen in Philadelphia. The result is a finely detailed and beautiful depiction of the American Pine Marten.

Approx. 7-1/4" x 10-1/2" (sheet size)

Condition:
Very good. The original hand color remains bold. The bound edge deals is present along the top side of the print and the original tissue guard is present.

It will be packaged on a rigid backing in a sealed plastic sleeve and will ship within a rigid mailer for protection.
