Balinese Wooden Hand Carved Statue deals of Ratih The Goddess of the Moon, Indonesia CA. 1950s Very Good Vintage Condition

A statue of a dancing Indonesian goddess of the moon - Ratih with the demon Kala Rau who partially swallowed the goddess. The statue is made of heavy wood and it was created in Bali in CA. 1950s by an unknown, however a skilled artist.

Ratih is the goddess of the moon. One day, she caught the demon Kala Rau stealing a drink of tirta amerta, the elixir of immortality. She told Lord Vishnu, who became angry and ordered to behead Kala Rau. Unfortunately, the elixir had reached Kala's throat, making his head immortal. It is believed that up until this day the bodiless demon chases the goddess of the deals moon, occasionally achieving his dark revenge by partially swallowing her. This story is known as the Hindi explanaition for lunar eclipses.

The statue could be a present idea for anyone who fancy Balinese Art or simply someone who did not discover it yet but could use it in his/her library, or office.
The item is in a very good vintage condition with lovely patina.
