Description / An outstanding, rare, and wonderful millinery offering today! A 1940's gaucho, black wool felt. Sweeping, upturned brim. Measures 10 inches front to back, 8 inches side to side. A popular style in the late 30's through 40's. Even more popular at the time the "Mark of Zorro" film premiered, in the early 40's. This one dates more closely to the WWII-era I believe, because.....drum roll please....it has a VICTORY ROLL! A curvy teardrop shaped piece at the top resembling that popular hairstyle. Not sure what the black strands are made of, however an excellent "hair" interpretation" is evident here. Black wool felt support band, with center elastic, measuring 16 inches end to end. There is a large bow at the back of the hat. Lined with a grosgrain ribbon band.
Size /Universal fit. Tagged a 22 1/2.
Label / Isabel Pickreel Inc., Modelo Hats, 611 West 7th St. Los Angeles. I have a gorgeous straw Pickreel hat in my personal collection which also displays lovely workmanship and originality.
Condition / This hat has earned itself a VERY deals GOOD PLUS, borderline Excellent, rating, per the condition chart below. Very faint storage odor. I see little to no evidence of moth damage. In beautiful, clean condition. The center elastic piece is brittle and might break eventually or sooner if tugged on; I will include a black elastic band with purchase in case this happens. A bit of make-up residue on the interior band at the front. There are a few hair strands poking up, as well as a few loose, unraveled strands.
