Found directly from the shores of Long Island, these all-natural, baby crab molts are framed just for you. Fiddler crabs (Uca pugilator) live in protected estuaries, inlets, and the open shoreline. When they have outgrown their exoskeleton, they molt, leaving behind the shells that we find. Living shore crabs, which can live up to 2 years, are not harmed in any way. Your wall decor could be roaming the shoreline or scuttling across the beach right now.
Because they are found in the sand and are not bred specifically, these amazing critters are natural objects and may not be perfect (cracks, missing leg segment, etc.). But we believe it adds to the charm -- as if you were walking down the shore and found them just as they are.
Your specific shadowbox (simulated wood grain) consists of two baby crab molts, with one positioned above the other. These molt shells are very small and thin and deals must be handled with care, for it is also very fragile. These crabs are also very rare and hard to find. This rarity also adds to their value and splendor.
Photographs of the items are representative. The frame and orientation are the same, but there may be slight variations of the actual crabs you will receive.
Frame outer dimensions are 8.25 x 6.25 x 1.6 in.
