FABRICS:
- Silk Boarder: I hand-painted the silk on this jacket myself using gutta and dye techniques depicting abstract black trees in a striped pattern with background color tones of rich brown, purples and marine blue. The silk paint has a luminous quality as the colors absolutely POP which you can see from the photos.
As I unpick traditional Japanese kimono to reuse the fabric in our work I always have lots of the white silk linings left over, instead of throwing them out I thought it best to recycle them by hand-painting the silk myself taking inspiration from the design work used to create traditional kimono. The dyes and gutta have been set by a steaming process which means they are permanently fixed and wont run or fade.
The vintage silk is in fabulous brand new condition which you can hopefully see in the photographs.
- This jacket only uses vintage and deadstock fabrics.
- Our construction process doesn't generate any waste or offcuts which as we use every piece of the fabric - this is a fully sustainable / kind to the environment garment.
- Main Fabric: A lovely medium weight linen cotton blend fabric which doesn't crease like pure linen does and has lots more drape and movement in the fabric. The combination deals of silk and linen make the garment very breathable and light to wear so it will keep you cool in the summer months but is also a versatile winter cover up.
