Ken Keppers was a Midwest potter with many interests. These plates would be a stunning addition to a gallery wall or used as plates.
About
With his start in high school, Ken Keppers had his hands in clay throughout his life. In college, he was the studio assistant at Bemidji State University. His responsibilities included deals mixing clay and glazes, firing pottery, and mentoring students.
He set up his studio in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin on wooded acreage. He built 3 kilns and assisted friends and colleagues in the US and Japan in building their own kilns.
Ken threw his pottery on a Leach treadle wheel. He created his own glazes using ashes from crops and local rock powders. He used wood from his property to fire his pottery selectively harvesting trees to maintain the health of his forest.
He was a man of many interests and skills including farming, draft horses, bee keeping, growing mushrooms, making maple syrup, cooking, baking, wood cutting, construction, woodworking, blacksmithing, hand drumming, music, and folk dancing.
