THE BACK STORY: This stone was given to me by a relative. He was the kind of man who "tinkered" with a lot of stuff. He could build a house and the furniture in it and he would make his kids help whether they wanted to or not. He was an electrician by trade but was not limited to that. He was very precise in his work and knew that he could, with a little information and some practice, make almost anything he wanted as good-if not better than the ones sold in stores. That was with everything. When his wife commented on some pieces of silver jewelry she liked, he looked at the price and said, "Nuts to that. I'll make it myself." Unlike most people who think or say that he could and did.
He decided to stop making jewelry when his eyes grew weary from it. His fingers probably hurt, too. He boxed up everything, his tools, findings, coils of wire, and gemstones, and stored them in the basement. When he heard I was interested in jewelry making, he sat me down and explained some things about soldering silver and gold I didn't understand. Two weeks later, I got the box. I don't even know what some of them are and I can't ask him because he has since passed. Only some were labeled, but his one I would recognize even without the word. I believe he purchased it some time in the late 1970's because of the envelope he kept it in was dated, but he could have just stored things that way. Either way, I know he didn't have any. It is such a cool stone!
