Civil War Era Crutches From James Island, South Carolina. Crutches from the mid 1800's from the James Island area that is located South of Charleston, SC. These could be Civil War period crutches. There was a lot of Civil War activity in the area by both Northern and Southern troops. There are parts like the arm pit rests and the hand rests that are hand craved with a knife, not done in a machine manufactured process. There are areas of wear and stains to the wood surfaces in areas. Shows it's age and lots of usage. Few crack here and there in the wood. They have unique enlarged bottom pieces for added stability. The soil in the area is sandy and perhaps that accounts for the enlarged bottom pieces. They deals look very rustic and from the mid 1800's period. Cool looking antique crutches with a neat Southern pedigree.
